The role of any retrospective facilitator is to help keep the retrospective focused and productive. On Retrium, the facilitator has some additional responsibilities.

Responsibility #1 - Move from phase to phase

Retrium column-based retrospectives have a number of phases to them: brainstorming, grouping, voting, and discussion. The facilitator is responsible for moving from one phase to another. To do that, simply click on the blue button on the bottom-right of your screen to open the action menu which will allow you to move to the next phase.

Responsibility #2 - Perform the grouping in column-based retros

In the grouping phase, the facilitator is typically the one who is able to drag and drop notes onto each other to create groups.

Responsibility #3 - Record action items

In the discussion phase, the facilitator is the only one who is able to record action items.

Responsibility #4 - Timeboxing the retrospective

You can timebox any portion of your retrospective using the timebox feature in the in the action menu. To access the timebox, the facilitator will highlight over the blue button in the bottom-right corner. Facilitators can add time, reset and pause the timebox, and send alerts (pulses and sounds) to participants during the retrospective.

Can I rotate the role of the facilitator on my team?

Yes, anyone who has access to your team room can be the facilitator or take over facilitation duties. The facilitator at the beginning of your retrospective is simply the person who selects the retrospective technique in your team room.
